Bald Eagle

The bald eagle is known as Haliaeetus leucocephalus. It's scientific name signifies a sea (halo) eagle (aeetos) with a white (leukos) head. These regal birds are not really bald, but their white-feathered heads gleam in contrast to their chocolate-brown body and wings.
The adult male is about 90 cm long and has a wingspan of 2 metres. Females grow somewhat larger than the males, which may reach 108 cm in length and have a wingspan of 2.5 metres. Both of them are dark brown, with a white head and tail. Bald Eagle has a heavy body, large head, long bill and during flight, it holds its broad wings flat like a board.
